New Commission from Blackout Theatre for STAND Festival, The Dance Centre, Vancouver

Created in collaboration with Lazaro and Juan, KIN explores ideas of belonging, lineage and kinship as guided by these Brazilian artists’ personal stories and shared mother tongue. We invite you to allow the cadence, rhythm and texture of the Portuguese language to awaken your senses. We are considering, how is cellular memory stirred when we speak freely in our first language?

Through the honesty, vulnerability and daring of the dancing body, KIN celebrates arrival, tenacity, and the people who become our chosen family.
